This post truly sheds a different light on these incidents. It's a tough one, though. It makes me want to cry when I try to imagine what the children went through before they died. OTOH the parents are suffering already without the punishment itself. Maybe negligence makes more sense than manslaughter.

Hey guys,
OMG - I just tried to read this but can't even finish it. I can't imagine the pain and dysfunction these families are suffering through-there is no way to recover from something like this. How can seemingly normal people be under so much pressure and anxiety that their "lack of attention" extends to their child?I want to believe that these poor adults must have had some type of undiagnosed cognitive issues. Otherwise, how can the rest of us be assured we are immune to this type of error

Safety Squad

I think that's the message we should all take away from this piece. No parent is immune from the "holes aligning". Hopefully there is room for technology and best practice to plug at least one of those holes every day to ensure that this problem ceases. What form that "plug" takes remains to be seen.

I want to review some of the products designed to combat this problem very soon. But surely, safety products would be only a portion of the solution.
